1815 – 2015 RYS Bicentenary Celebrations
1st June 2015 saw the Bicentenary of the Royal Yacht Squadron, 200 years to the day since the inaugural meeting at the Thatched Tavern.
A varied programme of celebrations on and off the water is planned for the duration of the year and the highlights can be viewed by clicking here
The Member centric element of the Bicentenary celebrations began on 1st June with the Spring Meeting at 78 St James’s Street (site of the original Thatched Tavern) and dinner at St James’s Palace. The celebrations then returned to Cowes for three days of intra club racing from the Castle. This included dayboats, Cruisers, IRC and of course our fleet of J70s. This regatta was punctuated by the Fleet Review on 5th June and a variety of social events ashore each evening including the Bicentenary Ball on 6th June.
In July the RYS Hosted an invitational regatta with 25 clubs involved in IRC, Fleet racing and J70 team racing. A week of challenging on the water activity and numerous spectacular social gatherings took. Please click here to visit the Regatta website.
