Prince Henrik Silver Trophy
The Royal Yacht Squadron is delighted to be hosting the 2019 Prince Henrik Silver Trophy.
The idea for this Trophy started in the late eighties from a conversation between His Royal Highness Prince Henrik of Denmark and Mr. Lowell Chang of Hong Kong. His Royal Highness Prince Henrik, besides having been trained as a French Diplomat, was a keen and able yachtsman, and fluent in many languages including written and spoken Chinese. Therefore, the idea was born to have a Team Racing competition between Nations in order to promote good fellowship and understanding between sailing people from different parts of the world. The Silver Trophy was first competed for in 1988.
The regatta, currently raced for in the International Dragon Class keelboat, is an invitational event between four sailing clubs: the Royal Danish Yacht Club, the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Cercle de la Voile d’Arcachon.
Sadly Prince Henrik passed away on February 13, 2018 at the age of 83.
Further details and race documents will be added to this web site in due course.
